What influences design?
Our big idea for students was the understanding that ‘Design and function are strategic’. Since implementing STEM in our Stage 3 classes we have seen a significant increase in student engagement with students being more self-directed in seeking answers to questions about their learning. Teachers also found that by incorporating other KLAs into the STEM unit, they were integrating outcomes from various syllabuses. Students have voiced their enjoyment of completing investigations and are now able to identify links between each of the four disciplines of STEM. Assessment is now viewed as an extension activity rather than a test of their knowledge.
